CHUNG TAI CHAN MONASTERY

TAIWAN

The roofs are an iconic element, the symbol of the monastery. Its design is typical of Chinese temples during the Tang Dynasty (618-907) where ornamental motifs decorate eaves hips and ridges. In the Buddhist architecture of that era – cheerful and majestic – the use of colour and ornamentation were essential. This lead to the selection of elZinc Rainbow® brown for the roofs while elZinc Rainbow® gold was chosen to clad the walls, in keeping with the traditional appearance of Chinese temples.
